Lal Saag Dal

(Serves 2-3)

Ingredients
1/2 cup Red Lentil (Lal Masoor dal) washed and soaked for 30 mins
1 tomatoes finely chopped
1 onion finely chopped
2 green chilies finely chopped
10-12 garlic cloves chopped
1 bowl chopped and washed Amaranth (lal saag)
2 tbsp ghee
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chili powder
1 tsp dry mango powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tbsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp asafetida
Procedure
Wash the dal.
Take a pressure cooker and add washed dal.
Add 2 cups water, 1 tsp salt and turmeric powder.
Cover it with lid and give 2 whistles.
For Tadka
Take big kadai and heat ghee.
Add cumin seeds, after a min add garlic and green chilies.
Toss it for 2-3 mins.
Add finely chopped onion, mix well
Cook it for 10 mins on low medium flame.
Add tomatoes and give it a nice mix.
Cook it on low flame, for 10 mins or till it turns soft and mushy.
Add Amaranth leaves and give it a nice mix.
Cook it further for 12-15 mins on low flame.
Add spices and cook further for 5-7 mins on low flame.
Your tadka is ready.
Add Tadka on the dal, stir it well.
Let it cook on low flame for 10-15 mins.
Serve
Serve hot Lal Saag Dal with Roti or Rice and enjoy!!
