Lal Saag Dal

(Serves 2-3)






Ingredients


  1. 1/2 cup Red Lentil (Lal Masoor dal) washed and soaked for 30 mins

  2. 1 tomatoes finely chopped

  3. 1 onion finely chopped

  4. 2 green chilies finely chopped

  5. 10-12 garlic cloves chopped

  6. 1 bowl chopped and washed Amaranth (lal saag)

  7. 2 tbsp ghee

  8. Salt to taste

  9. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

  10. 1 tsp red chili powder

  11. 1 tsp dry mango powder

  12. 1 tsp coriander powder

  13. 1 tbsp cumin seeds

  14. 1/2 tsp asafetida



Procedure






  1. Wash the dal.

  2. Take a pressure cooker and add washed dal.

  3. Add 2 cups water, 1 tsp salt and turmeric powder.

  4. Cover it with lid and give 2 whistles.



For Tadka


  1. Take big kadai and heat ghee.

  2. Add cumin seeds, after a min add garlic and green chilies.

  3. Toss it for 2-3 mins.

  4. Add finely chopped onion, mix well

  5. Cook it for 10 mins on low medium flame.

  6. Add tomatoes and give it a nice mix.

  7. Cook it on low flame, for 10 mins or till it turns soft and mushy.

  8. Add Amaranth leaves and give it a nice mix.

  9. Cook it further for 12-15 mins on low flame.

  10. Add spices and cook further for 5-7 mins on low flame.

  11. Your tadka is ready.

  12. Add Tadka on the dal, stir it well.

  13. Let it cook on low flame for 10-15 mins.




Serve


Serve hot Lal Saag Dal with Roti or Rice and enjoy!!
