One Pot Sambar Rice

(Serves 2)






Ingredients


  1. 1 Portion Rice (washed and soaked for 30 mins)

  2. 2 Portion Arhar Dal / Pigeon Pea (washed and soaked for 30 mins)

  3. 2 cups water

  4. 1 onion slices

  5. 2 tomatoes chopped

  6. 1-2 green chilies chopped

  7. 1 tbsp mustard seeds

  8. 8-10 curry leaves

  9. 2-3 Red Chili

  10. 1 tbsp grated ginger

  11. Salt to taste

  12. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

  13. 1 tsp red chili powder

  14. 1 tsp coriander powder

  15. 1/2 tsp coriander seeds

  16. 2-3 tbsp mustard oil

  17. 1/2 tsp hing/ asafetida

  18. 1 tsp dry mango powder

  19. 2 tbsp Sambar Masala


Procedure






  1. Heat oil in a pressure cooker.

  2. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves, coriander seeds, red chili.

  3. Let it crackle for a min or two.

  4. Add grated ginger and cook for a min or two.

  5. Add onions and green chilies and mix well.

  6. Cook it till it changes color, for 6-7 mins on low medium flame

  7. Add chopped tomatoes, mix well.

  8. Cook till it turns soft and mushy.

  9. Add spieces and give it a nice mix.

  10. Add Dal and Rice, mix it well.

  11. Add water and mix.

  12. Cover it with a lid, give a whistle and simmer the flame for 5 mins.



For Serving
